What is IBD?

Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national celebration of local bookstores. Every store is unique and independent, and every party is different. But in addition to authors, live music, cupcakes, scavenger hunts, kids events, art tables, readings, contests, and other fun stuff, there are exclusive books and literary items that you can only get on that day. Not before. Not after. Not online. We celebrate our bookstores because they are community centers and local anchors run by passionate readers; they are universes of ideas that contain the possibility of real serendipity; they are lively performance spaces and quiet places where aimless perusal is a day well spent.

What is the DC bookstore crawl?

It’s a one-day challenge to visit all ten participating DC bookstores! First, pickup a Bookstore Crawl map at any participating bookstore (or print one out from the link above). Then visit the fantastic DC bookstores on April 27 and get your map stamped at each one. The Bookstore Crawl map entitles you to discounts at many bookstores and cafés, including buy-one-get-one-free drinks at Peregrine Coffee. If you visit all ten bookstores, you win eternal glory and a limited-edition IBD tote! The Bookstore Crawl is a great way to experience all the special festivities of IBD (story times, author events, and lots more) and to support your local community.
